As part of its efforts to promote Indian Cinema in South China, the Consulate General of India, Guangzhou, in cooperation with NFDC (National Film Development Corporation of India) is organizing a week-long ‘Canton Indian Film Festival’ at its premises in January 2025. The Consulate is also planning to organize an Indian film festival in March 2025 in Shenzhen. The tentative list of movies that will be shown during the film festivals include 777 Charlie, RRR, Dollu, Kantara, Baahubali: The Beginning, Baahubali: The Conclusion and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (ZNMD).
2. In order to create a buzz for the film festivals, the Post organized a curtain raiser event of the ‘Canton Indian Film Festival 2025’ at its premises on 30 November 2024 (Saturday). The event included a screening of the ‘69th National Award’ winning movie, ‘777 Charlie’. Consul General Mr. Shambhu Hakki delivered welcome remarks during the event. The event was attended by more than 100 people including diplomatic corps, business representatives, Indian community, Friends of India and GD Film Association members.
3. During the event, a trailer of the film ‘Maharaja’ was also shown, as this movie was released on 40,000 screens in China on November 29, 2024. The participants were also encouraged to watch this movie in theatres.
4. Following the screening of the movie ‘777 Charlie’, Mr. Kiranraj K., the Director of the Film also joined virtually for a fireside chat with Consul General. The audience listened to him in awe as he shared his journey of making the movie and interacted with audience.

The film ‘777 Charlie’, a heartwarming tale that explored themes of friendship, love and the bond between humans and animals, was appreciated by participants across all age groups and nationalities. The attendees expressed that the film is heartwarming and touching, highlighting the strong emotional bond between humans and dogs. They praised its excellent direction, music of the film, family-friendly content, the acting skills of the actors and dog, as well as the positive message of the movie, noting that it resonates deeply with dog lovers.
6. After the movie screening, Consul General and the other Consulate officials met with the representatives of the Guangdong Film Association (GDFA), a non-profit organization consisting of Chinese filmmakers and film artists, and the representatives of the Guangdong Film Bureau (GFB). The main agenda of the meeting was to explore the process for screening of Indian movies in Shenzhen in March 2024.
7. The event concluded with authentic Indian dinner as part of the Diwali celebrations.
