Celebrations of Vishwa Hindi Diwas 2024 by the Consulate General of India, Guangzhou.

Consulate General of India, Guangzhou organized the celebrations of Vishwa Hindi Diwas 2024 at its premises on 29 March 2024 at the premises of the Consulate. The event saw a huge participation of faculty and students from Hindi Department of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS) and Indian Community based in South China. Some participants from Indian community as well as Faculty/ Chinese students from the Centre for Indian Studies in Shenzhen University, Yunnan University and Yunnan Minzu University also joined the celebrations in virtual mode.

2. As part of the commemoration of Vishwa Hindi Diwas, Consul General Shri Shambhu Hakki also inaugurated a ‘Hindi Corner’ in the Consular Hall of the Consulate, in order to promote the reading of Hindi books among the public.

3. Consul General Shri Shambhu Hakki addressed the gathering and delivered the Keynote Address during the event. In his Address, Consul General talked about the importance of learning Hindi as well the purpose of celebrating Vishwa Hindi Diwas every year. He also highlighted the activities undertaken by the Consulate for the popularization of Hindi in South China. Prof. Cao Cenrui, Head of the Hindi Department (Hindi Studies), Yunnan Minzu University joined the event in virtual mode and gave a speech on the topic “चीन में हिंदी शिक्षा के विकास के प्रमुख कारक”This was followed by a speech written by Prof Yu Longyu, Director, Center for Indian Studies, Shenzhen University on the topic “भाषाई जीवंतता को अक्षुण बनाये रखने के लिए अंतर साहित्यानुवाद की प्रासंगिकता-हिंदी की विकास यात्रा पर विचार”. As Professor Prof Yu Longyu could not join the event, his speech was read by Dr Vivek Mani Tripathi, Associate Professor, Hindi Department, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS).

4. The event featured a bouquet of cultural performances such as melodious singing of Hindi songs, Hindi Poetry recitals, dance on Hindi songs and a short enactment of ‘Yudhishthir-Yaksh Conversation’ play by the talented participants. These cultural performances were well appreciated by the audience.

5. The Consulate General of India, Guangzhou had also organized the final round of the ‘Singing Competition of Hindi Songs, titled ‘Hindi Idol’ as part of the celebrations of World Hindi Day on 29 March 2024. The participants were judged by a panel of judges and the winners of the singing competition were awarded prizes and certificates by Consul General.

The Consulate had also organized an online Hindi Essay Writing Competition for the children of Indian Diaspora on the topic मैं विकसित भारत @2024 की कल्पना कैसे करती/करती हूँ?'. The participants were judged by a panel of judges and the winners of the competition were felicitated with prizes and certificates by Consul General on this occasion.

7. The event concluded with group photo with the winners and participants as well as cultural performers during the occasion.

8. The Consulate also encouraged the Hindi Departments of the Chinese universities to conduct the competitions as part of the commemoration of World Hindi Day.

9. As part of the celebrations of World Hindi Day, Consulate General of India, Guangzhou had also organized some social media campaigns for the promotion of Hindi in South China. The Chinese students from the Hindi Department of the Chinese universities made video greeting messages on the occasion of World Hindi Day (10 January 2024), which were popularized on the official social media platforms of the Consulate to amplify the reach and impact. The students of the Hindi Department of the Chinese Universities were also encouraged to participate in Hindi Dainik Samvaad’: an innovative Social Media Campaign on Essential Hindi Phrases for Daily Usage. Some Indian Restaurants based in South China volunteered to provide food vouchers to the participants of this social media campaign. The Consulate distributed these coupons received from the Indian restaurants to appreciate the efforts of these students. These posts from these participants have been actively engaging on our social media platforms particularly on Facebook where our posts have garnered significant views and interactions. The link of some of these posts are placed below:
