Celebrations of Gandhi Jayanti 2024 at the Consulate General of India, Guangzhou on 2 October 2024

The Consulate General of India, Guangzhou celebrated #GandhiJayanti to commemorate the 155th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi today. The event saw an enthusiastic participation from Indian Diaspora & Friends of India.
 
2. Consul General Shri Shambhu Hakki and Mrs Suma Hakki paid floral tributes to Gandhiji. In his Welcome Remarks, Consul General Shri Shambhu Hakki highlighted the relevance of Gandhiji’s philosophy in today’s world. He also encouraged everyone to take inspiration from the life & legacy of Gandhiji. Consul General also mentioned about commemoration of the birth anniversary of another illustrious leader Lal Bahadur Shastri, in his address to the gathering today.
 
3. To mark the occasion, various artists including Members of India Diaspora, children and local Chinese artists, paid a tribute to Gandhiji by presenting a bouquet of cultural performances such as Prayers, Bhajans, Poems, Songs & Indian Classical Dances dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi during the solemn occasion. The event also featured a rendition of the bhajan ‘Bapu Mere’ composed and sung by the Consul General Shri Shambhu Hakki, who was accompanied by a well-known Jazz Artist Mr Benoit Stasiaczyk, on Piano. The event also featured a special appearance from a 2 year old young artist dressed up as Mahatma Gandhi. Members of the Diamond Culture Group of Brahma Kumaris Guangzhou Centre presented group dance and bhajan dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi. The event also featured a Kathak Performance by Ms Kristy, a well-known Chinese Artist and a student of the legendary Pandit Birju Maharaj, on ‘Teentaal Tarana in Raag Janasamohini’ that evokes feelings associated with pangs of separation, nostalgia, faith and devotion.
 
4. To further continue the celebrations of Gandhi’s teachings on health and wellness, Dr Dane Shafeeque, an Indian Ayurveda Expert conducted a Talk on ‘Gandhiji’s philosophy regarding healthy living and Indian Vegetarian Food Principles in Ayurveda.’
 
5. The cultural program concluded with an inspiring #Meditation Session conducted by BK Sapna ji, Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University on the theme ‘When I Change, the World Changes’ to reflect upon the teachings of Gandhiji.
 
6. The event concluded with distribution of certificates and token of appreciation to the cultural performers to recognize their efforts and hardwork. This was followed by offering floral tributes to Gandhiji by all the participants.
 
7. The Consulate had also organized a Special Photo Exhibition on the ‘Life and Legacy of Mahatma Gandhi’ to commemorate the 155th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi today.
