Events organised at Consulate General of India, Guangzhou to celebrate International Year of Millets & International Women’s Day; Inauguration of expanded India Corner, Inauguration of Ayurveda & Millets Corner, Release of Newsletter
Consulate General of India, Guangzhou organized a series of events to celebrate International Year of Millets & International Women’s Day at the Consulate premises on 6 March 2023. The event was graced by the special presence of H.E. Pradeep Kumar Rawat, Ambassador of India to China as well as Mrs Shruti Rawat.
2. Ambassador Shri Pradeep Kumar Rawat & Mrs Shruti Rawat inaugurated the expanded India Corner called ‘Dukaan’ at the Consulate Premises. The India Corner has been set up as part of efforts of CGI, Guangzhou to promote Indian products in South China. Ambassador also interacted with South-China based importers of Indian products to get a deeper understanding of their work. A special corner on ODOP (One District One Product) from Karnataka showcasing sandawood woodwork, Bidri art as well as Ilakal Saree were also displayed.
3. As part of the International Year of Millets and International Women’s Day, the Consulate had organised a Millets Master Chef Challenge on the theme ‘Millets for Women’s Well-being’ for the women of Indian Diaspora as well as Ladies Club of the Consulate. The participants also showcased their Millet Dishes to Ambassador & Shruti Ma’am during their visit to the special exhibition on ‘Millet Dishes for Women’s Well-being’. The participants interacted with them about the preparation method as well as the health benefits of their millet dishes for women’s well being. During the special exhibition on Millets for Women’s Health, several new Indian dishes made out of Millets were introduced such as Millets Kheer, Millets Gujiya, Millets Idli, Millets Porridge, Millets Tikki to name a few.
4. As part of efforts to promote Ayurveda & Millet products in South China, CGI, Guangzhou had organized an event in which Ambassador inaugurated ‘Ayurveda’ & ‘Millets’ Corners on Micromart Mini-programme.
5. During the event, Consul General Shri Shambhu Hakki delivered Welcome Remarks and elaborated on the efforts made by the Consulate to promote Indian products in South China. This was followed by a Keynote Address by the Ambassador. In his address to the gathering, Ambassador highlighted the motto of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi to bring ancient traditions to the modern times and encouraged everyone to take active part in activities related to Yoga, Ayurveda and encouraged everyone to include Millets in their diet as part of a healthy lifestyle.
6. During the event, Ambassador also unveiled the 1st edition of CGI Guangzhou’s Newsletter called “New India”. The Newsletter is an initiative by the Consulate to introduce the readers about the Consulate’s activities in the past few months, the upcoming events as well as some of the positive stories of India marching towards becoming ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’. The digital version of the Newsletter will be accessible on the website of the Consulate.
7. The event also featured a panel discussion on leveraging the presence of Indian businesses in South China to promote Indian products which was moderated by Consul General. The key Speakers shared their experiences of doing business in China. Ambassador appreciated the speakers for sharing their experiences as well as shared his views of promoting Indian products in China.
8. This was followed by an enthralling Kathak performance by Ms Kristy, a Chinese student of the legendary Pandit Birju Maharaj. Her performance included Vishnu Vandana, Thumri & Baant.
9. The event concluded with awarding of certificates to the winners & judges of the Millets Master Chef Challenge by Ambassador Shri Pradeep Kumar Rawat, Mrs Shruti Rawat and Consul General Shri Shambhu Hakki.
