Henna painting session organsied by the Consulate in Gaugnzhou Library

As a part of the India Culture Month being held in Guangzhou Library, the Consulate organised a session on Henna painting on May 24, 2014. The session comprisesd of a lecture cum demonstration on Indian traditonal Henna painting (mehendi). Ms Anisha Chawla, henna painting expert gave a lecture and also taught the art of henna painting. A large number of people attended the session.

A session on Yoga organised by the Consulate in Guangzhou Library

As a part of the India Culture Month being held in Guangzhou Library, the Consulate organised a session on Yoga at Guangzhou Library on May 24, 2014. The session comprisesd of a lecture cum demonstration on Yoga by Mr Deepak Prajapati, famous Yoga teacher and owner of Yoga studio, Yoga Sutra. A large number of people interested in Yoga participated in the session and learnt the basic practices. Ms Anisha Chawla, henna painting expert gave a lecture and also taught the art of henna painting. A large number of people attended the session.

Ambassador meets Chengdu City Mayor

On May 15, Ambassador met with Chengdu Mayor – Mr. Ge Honglin (GHL). This was Ambassador’s second meeting with GHL who had earlier met him in Beijing. During his meeting, Ambassador briefed GHL on his earlier meeting with Sichuan Party Secretary WDM, the launching of the “Glimpses of India” Festival in Chengdu as well as his meetings with the President of Sichuan University and Chairman of DEC. He also briefed GHL on the series of activities that the Indian Consulate in Guangzhou will be organizing in Chengdu over the next few weeks. He specifically mentioned the Indian food festival which will take place at the Chengdu Shangrila Hotel from May 22 to 29, the Buddha Carika Exhibition combined with Benoy Behl’s Buddhist photographic exhibition at the historic Baoguang Monastery from June 4 to 12, followed by tourism and business promotion events, and a Bollywood film week.

Ambassador meets Sichuan Party Secretary

India’s Ambassador to China Mr. Ashok K. Kantha visited Sichuan Province from May 13 to 15, 2014. This was Mr. Kantha’s first visit to Sichuan province and Chengdu city after taking over as Ambassador. His last visit to the city was in year 1984. On 14 May, Ambassador along with Consul General Mr. K. Nagaraj Naidu met Sichuan Party Secretary Mr. Wang Dongming (WDM). WDM told Ambassador that Sichuan province is rightly positioned in southwest China to enhance multi-faceted engagement with India. He said that Sichuan province was endowed with a rich cultural heritage, strong industrial foundation, excellent educational facilities and rich human resources to enhance greater economic and people-to-people contacts with India. Ambassador briefed WDM on the India-China Strategic Economic Dialogue (SED) and the significant role that Sichuan based companies can play in the some of the projects that were being discussed under this dialogue particularly in the railway sector as well as industrial parks. Ambassador also briefed WDM on the activities that the Embassy and the Consulate were planning to organize in Chengdu as part of the festivities that were planned for the year that was being celebrated by the two countries as the “India-China Year of Friendly Exchanges”.

Ambassador visits Sichuan University

On 14 May, Ambassador met with the President of Sichuan University, Mr. Xie Heping. In his meeting Ambassador emphasized the need for greater academic and educational exchanges between Sichuan and Indian universities. Sichuan University is also keen to work with India on setting up a center for Finance and Management in the campus. Ambassador also met with senior academicians and scholars of the Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS) at Sichuan University.

Glimpses of India Festival inaugurated in Chengdu

On the evening of May 14, 2014 Ambassador along with the Deputy Mayor of Chengdu Mr. Fu Yonglin inaugurated the “Glimpses of India” Festival with a series of dance performance by artistes from the Kalakshetra dance academy. Ambassador in his speech said that the performances in Chengdu were part of the year-long “Glimpses of India Festival”, which the Government of India is organizing in 12 cities of China. He also said that the performances will take the audience on a journey to India and in the process strengthen the rich tapestry of friendly contacts that have historically prevailed between our two civilizations. The performance which was held at the historic Wuhou Temple Museum Theatre was attended by a wide section of the Chengdu society, including representatives of several foreign consulates, journalists, officials of several provincial and city departments and state-owned enterprises. The venue for the performance was provided by the Foreign Affairs Office of Chengdu Municipality. The seven performances by the artistes of Kalakshetra enthralled the Chinese audiences who reciprocated by a standing ovation and presentation of flower bouquets to all the artistes.

Ambassador's visit to Wipro, Chengdu

On May 14, 2014 Ambassador Mr. Ashok K. Kantha accompanied by Consul General Mr. K. Nagaraj Naidu visited the Global Delivery Centre of Wipro where he had a meeting with the company’s Indian and Chinese staff. Wipro’s China Head Mr. Senthil introduced Ambassador to Wipro’s China operations as well as briefed him on some of the operational issues that the company was facing in Chengdu. Ambassador assured Mr. Senthil of all support and requested the leadership team to be in touch with the Indian Consulate in Guangzhou.

Ambassador visits DEC's turbine and blade manufacturing facility in Deyang, Sichuan

On May 13, 2014 Ambassador visited the headquarters of power equipment major Dongfang Electric (DEC) in Chengdu and had a meeting with DECs Chairman Mr. Si Zefu (SZF). During their meeting, SZF briefed Ambassador on DECs operations in India. Ambassador thanked Chairman SZF for receiving him personally and briefing him on DEC. He said that he was impressed by the progress DEC has made over the last 20 years as a provider of conventional and non-conventional energy solutions. He also appreciated the role played by DEC in India’s power sector in the last 10 years. Since DEC has technologies for both conventional and non-conventional energy, Ambassador called upon DEC to play a larger and substantive role in the Indian power sector by investing and setting up local manufacturing facilities. DEC is currently setting up its headquarters in Kolkata, which would provide consultancy and training to Indian engineers working on projects using boiler, turbine and generators supplied by DEC. Ambassador also visited the turbine and blade manufacturing facility of DEC located in Deyang, Sichuan Province.

Consulate organises India Culture Month at Guangzhou Library

The Consulate General of India in Guangzhou in collaboration with Guangzhou Library is organising India Culture month starting from May 11, 2014 in the library premises. The opening ceremony was held on May 11 and was attended by a large number of people including Provincial officials, representatives from Consulates and media. More than 500 people attended the function which showcased Indian culture in its various forms, including classical dance performance, bollywood dance, songs of Rabindra Nath Tagore and Yoga demonstration. Consul General Mr. K. Nagaraj Naidu delivered the opening remarks and spoke on the importance of cultural ties between the people of two countries. Consul General after the opening ceremony also inaugurated Indian photographic and handicrafts exhibition. The photos in the exhibition have been chosen from 'India is' photographic challenge conducted by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, New Delhi in the year 2012 and 2013. The Culture Month will include following programmes and will be held at Multicultural Library, North Building, 8th Floor, Guangzhou Library.

Consul General delivers lecture on India-China Relations in Jinan University

Consul General Mr. K, Nagaraj Naidu delivered a lecture on India China relations at Jinan University, Guangzhou on April 28, 2014. It is the part of the initiative launched by the Consulate to reach out to local academic community. The lecture was organised by the Centre for Chindian Studies functioning under Jinan University. The Institute is in the forefront of promoting India studies in South China. Consul Geneeral provided wide range of perspective regarding India China relations and explained how it is immensely important to have closer relationship for both the countries. The lecture was followed by an interactive session where participants raised wide range of issues pertaining to the relationship between the two countries. The lecture was attended by a large number of participants including Professors, scholars, students and journalists.

INS Shivalik arrives at Qingdao

The Indian Naval Ship SHIVALIK arrived at Qingdao port on 20 April 2014 for participating in the Multilateral Maritime Exercise being organized by the PLA Navy as part of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of the Navy. The INS SHIVALIK was open to visitors on 22 Apr 2014 and a large number of local Chinese and Indian community visitors availed the opportunity to visit one of the frontline frigates of the Indian Navy. A total of 1100 Chinese civilians, 375 PLA Navy personnel and about 50 Indians visited the ship. A deck reception was hosted by the ship in the evening which was graced by HE Mr Ashok Kantha Ambassador of India to China. The Chinese, foreign participants and Indian community enjoyed the scintillating performance by the onboard Indian Navy Band and cultural performance by the ship’s crew. About 650 people visited the ship in the evening reception. Prominent among these were Admiral Wu Shengli Commander PLA Navy, Vice Admiral Mark Norman Commander Royal Canadian Navy, Rear Admiral Anne Cullerre Commandant Maritime Zone Pacific Ocean from France, Admiral Katsutoshi Kawano Chief of Staff JMSDF, Rear Admiral Jack Steer Chief of New Zealand Navy, Admiral Jonathan Greenert Chief of Naval Operations US Navy and Admiral Harry Harris Commander US Pacific Fleet.

Promotional Event of 2nd India China Yoga Summit held in Guangzhou

A promotional event of the 2nd India-China Yoga Summit was held in Guangzhou on April 18, 2014. The Consulate General of India in Guangzhou will be organising the 2nd Summit in Dali in Yunnan Province form July 7-12, 2014. A large number of Yoga practitioners from all over the world are expected to participate in the event. The event will be graced by renowned Yoga Masters including Dr. Geeta Iyenger from Iyengear School, Pune and Dr. H. R. Nagendra, Chancellor, Swami Vivekananda Anusandhana Samsthana, Bangalore besidesd various other prominent teachers. The promotional event was attended by a large number of media houses and yoga practitioners. Consul General Mr. K. Nagaraj Naidu gave a brief introduction about the real meaning of Yoga and asked the participants to follow its true spirit. The event was also attended by Chief Editor of Cityzine, Lifestyle Magazine published by Nanfang Media group and prominent office bearers of Iyengar Yoga Association of China. The first India China Yoga Summit was held in June 2011 in Guangzhou and was graced by famous yoga master B K S Iyengar.

Tamil New Year celebrated in Guangzhou

The People from Tamil Nadu in India presently residing in Guangdong province organised a function in Panyu (Guangzhou) on April 13, 2014 to celebrate the coming of the Tamil New Year. A large number of people from Tamil Nadu living in Guangdong Province participated on the occasion. During the function, the participants also inaugurated Guangdong Tamil Community ( GTC). Consul General Mr. K. Nagaraj Naidu was the Chief Guest on the occasion and launched the GTC website. Speaking on the occasion, the Consul General extended good wishes on the occassion and congratulated the participants for the formation of GTC and wished that the organisation would work to promote closer cultural ties between the people of Guangdong and Tamil Nadu. Cultural performances including performance of Bharatnatyam, singing of Indian songs and Sichuan opera were held on the occasion.

Indian Ambassador to China attends Boao Forum for Asia

Indian Ambassdaor to China Mr Ashok K Kantha along with Consul General of India in Guangzhou Mr K Nagaraj Naidu is atttending the Boao Forum for Asia. It is being held in Boao in Hainan Province from April 8-11, 2014. The Indian side is being represented by senior government and business leaders including Mr Arun Maira, member of the Planning Commission, Government of India and Mr Ratan Tata, former chairman of the Tata Group of Companies. On the sidelines of the Forum, the Ambassador also met Mr Ni Qiang, Mayor of Haikou.

Visit of Indian Ambassador to China Mr. Ashok K. Kantha to Guandong Province

Indian Ambassador to China Mr. Ashok K. Kantha visited Guangdong Province from February 24-27, 2014. The visit was Ambassador's first out of Beijing since taking over as the new Indian Ambassador to China on January 3, 2014. During his visit, Ambassador met with the Party Secretary of Guangdong Province Mr. Hu Chunhua and the Mayor of Guangzhou. Ambassador briefed Party Secretary Hu on the current state of India-China relations and the momentum that the relationship has acquired in recent years. Ambassador also discussed the series of activities that the Embassy and the Consulates in China plan to organize under the "Glimpses of India" Festival in China in year 2014, which has been declared by the two sides as the "Year of Friendly Exchanges". Ambassador also requested enterprises in Guangdong to consider investing in India. Ambassador also said that the Indian side would support the proposal of Guangzhou to sign a sister-city agreement with the south Indian city of Chennai. 
During the period of his visit Ambassador Mr. Ashok K. Kantha also visited the headquarters of Huawei and ZTE in Shenzhen and had meetings with the senior leadership of the two companies. While in Guangzhou, Ambassador visited the facility of Midea Group, which has recently invested in India as well visited the manufacturing facility of the Indian company - Essel Propack. 
At a reception hosted by Indian Consul General Mr. K. Nagaraj Naidu, Ambassador interacted with a number of academicians, scholars, think-tank groups, artistes, and representatives of Indian and Chinese companies. 
Ambassador also visited the Nanyue Wang Mausoleum, the Canton Tower, as well as the Hualin Temple.
